Emotional self-regulation simply means learning how to manage feelings in a healthy way. Children will still feel angry, sad, disappointed, excited, frustrated, or worried. Those feelings are normal. The goal is not to stop children from having emotions. The goal is to help them learn what to do with those emotions.
